Berkman Dam and HEPP
The Berkman high-flow, low-head hydroelectric power plant is located on the main stream of the Ceyhan River basin in Osmaniye province, southern Türkiye. The dam has a crest length of 345 meters across the Ceyhan River valley with a hydraulic height of 16.5 meters.
Enova Energy Company, set up by Özaltın and Nurol Investment Companies, in which both have an equal number of shares, owns and operates this hydropower station. It is the second in a series of two power stations implemented in the cascade development of two projects on this river by Enova Energy Company on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis for a concession period of 49 years.
The powerhouse, using gravity water flow, was furnished with three pit-type horizontal Kaplan water turbine-driven synchronous generators rated at 13 MW each, with a total installed capacity of 39 MW, and all their associated equipment to connect to the transmission system. The plant has been generating to date an average output of 160 million kWh of renewable, clean, sustainable energy a year. The project execution began in 2007, and the site was commissioned, and debuted its commercial operation year-end 2010.
